Start with the light that reaches the screen
An indoor display in a controlled room does not face the same competition as a roadside screen in direct sun. Describe whether the display is indoors, under a canopy, shaded for part of the day or exposed to strong daylight before comparing nominal brightness figures.
Orientation also matters. A screen that faces the morning or afternoon sun can need a different operating plan from one that sits permanently in shade. Photos, compass direction and expected operating hours make the first discussion more useful.
More brightness is not automatically a better image
Brightness needs to work with contrast, calibration, content and ambient light. Excessive output indoors can be uncomfortable and can make dark content look washed out, while insufficient output outdoors can reduce visibility when sunlight is strongest.
The practical target is enough headroom for the most demanding normal condition, with a control plan that allows output to be reduced at night or in lower ambient light.
Include cameras in the brief
For stages and sports venues, cameras may see the LED display differently from the human eye. Brightness, refresh rate, scan behavior, frame rate and camera settings need to be considered together. A high nit figure alone does not guarantee clean results on camera.
